Espalier from bamboo canes

I had some leftover bamboo cane from another project and decided to make an espalier for our Black Eyed Susan.

Bamboo is really easy to split with an axe, so all the vertical pieces was cut to the right length and split in two. The split pieces was attached to the horizontal canes with stainless steel wire.

After pre-drilling some holes in the bamboo canes, the espalier was screwed directly to the wall.

She has been climbing all summer, but now it is September and there is not much life left in her. Maybe she can climb all the way to the top next year?
