USB-charger for a small RC car

Last Updated 9 November 2024
My friends son has a small RC car and the USB-charger for this had unfortunately experienced a little rough love. The case was cracked and the cable torn loose from the circuit board.

I cut the cable, striped the wire ends and re-soldered it to the circuit board.

The case was to broken to stay together on its own and the strain relief for the cable would not have been good enough to endure future use.
Using a cable tie to temporary hold it in place, I used CA-glue and accelerator to gradually build up quite a thick layer of glue around the cable. After removing the cable tie I then glued the lid on, filled the whole casing with CA-glue and used a piece off adhesive lined heat shrink tubing on the outside of the whole connector/charger.

It came out nice and solid and I believe this repair should make the charger able to withstand tough use in the future, but impossible to repair again.
